Ductless Mini Splits are comprised of both an insulated liquid line and an insulated suction line, and primarily installed using ductless air conditioning units.
Traditional ductless mini splits are smaller in diameter from their central air conditioning counterparts, with common sizes ranging from ¼” to 5/8”. Similarly, they are available in lengths of 15’ to 100’ and insulation thickness of 3/8” to 1″.
EZ-Roll Ductless Mini Split line sets are pre-sleeved from the factory and kitted to save time on installation. Manually sleeving elastomeric insulation on to a length of copper tubing is tedious and not without the burden of insulation damages. Factory-assembled line sets eliminates the need for repairing torn insulation and allows the product to be installed right out of the box.
Insulation thickness is another option to consider when preparing a line set application. Depending upon your location, the local code will determine the appropriate insulation thickness required for your application. Insulation is available in 3/8”, ½”, ¾” and 1”. In more temperate climates, 3/8” and ½” are the dominant sizes. In regions where the climate is predominantly humid or arid, thicker insulation is specified by local codes.
Mini Splits are flared at the time of manufacture making them ready to install right out of the box using 45 degree forged brass flare nuts.
Elastomeric insulation properties include:
▪ Elastomeric insulation conform to the requirements of ASTM C534 – specification for flexible elastomeric cellular thermal insulation
▪ Must have a water vapor transmission rate of 0.10 perm-inch when tested to ASTM E96 – Standard test method for water vapor transmission of materials
▪ Must have a flame spread of 25 or less and smoke rating of 50 or less when tested to ASTM E84 – Standard test method for surface burning characteristics of building materials.
▪ Must be UV rated
▪ Insulation must have “25/50 rated, UV retardant” printed along the length of the tube
